Homeless Mom's Dilemma: Food or Shelter?

No caring mother should be forced to choose:  Feed my children . . . or spend the night on the street?

For two months Veronica Duran-Ramirez lived through the nightmare of homelessness along with her two young children. Escaping an abusive homelife, they slept in public shelters or on Los Angeles' dangerous Skid Row among drug dealers, addicts and nearly 400 registered sex offenders.

"I thought, I'm the worst mom there could be," says Veronica.

Then, with help from Union Rescue Mission partners like you, the little family found a new start at Hope Gardens Family Center.  With child care, job training and counseling, Hope Gardens is worlds apart from downtown's hostile streets.

Click here to watch this 2-minute CNN video clip, "Hope for the Homeless," now.  It features an interview with Veronica and the kids, shot on location at Hope Gardens.  Plus comments from Andy Bales, CEO of Union Rescue Mission.

It costs just $30 to help a family like Veronica's at Hope Gardens.

Veronica was able to receive help through Hope Gardens, but there are many more mothers and children living on the streets who need help, too.  Won't you please help us by supporting Union Rescue Mission's efforts to provide food, shelter and safety to people like Veronica and her kids?  Click here to make your donation now.
