Pain of violence -- wounds of despair

Mark* limped into the Union Rescue Mission chapel on the morning he arrived. This battered young man appeared to be in much better physical shape than the day before. Though he was well below 6 feet tall, Mark had been a basketball phenom in high school. He came to us via the hospital after a severe beating on the streets of Skid Row -- pummeled so badly that he could not see out of his swollen right eye. Dazed and confused, he was not even certain of where he had arrived.

We are happy that the physical evidence of the beating has left his face, but he is still a bit unsure, quiet and withdrawn. With help from partners like you, Mark will get the counseling, training and medical care he needs to get back on track.

Bandages and medical care helped heal the injury Mark received out on the streets. But it is much harder to deal with the wounds to the inner man or woman caused by a physical attack. Your gift today will give victims like Mark a chance to transform their lives from the inside out. With God's help, he will grow strong enough to become a contributing citizen in our community.
